Gene Cafe CBR-101 (Red)

$ 650.00

The Gene Cafe CBR-101 has established itself as an excellent roaster capable of producing about half a pound of uniformly roasted coffee (250g). It uses a unique vortex twisting, off-axis chamber rotation which assures complete distribution of the green coffee during roasting. This motion is one of the main reasons for the roasted coffee's uniform color.

My second GeneCafe

First of all I love your product. We bought a second as a backup since I don't want to go any length of time without being able to roast weekly. The first has held up quite well but since it was getting on in age we bought a second and are using the first as a backup.

The first was one of the first models and didn't have the safety features. Those work fine and are not a problem. In general it works as well as the first but for two issues I think are manufacturing related.

The first is that the chaff catcher doesn't fit well into the exhaust port on the later model machine, it seemed somewhat warped and the exhaust port had a small crack. It still functions fine though.

The second is that the drum doesn't seem to have the same great tolerances as the first model. It fits but it isn't as precise a fit.

All in all I still give it five starts but I would recommend to GeneCafe that they spend some time with their engineers and manufacturers and work on the mechanical tolerances they will accept.

It’s dope

Wife wanted red. It’s pretty sick and works quick AF.

Quality home roaster

I had the same model for about 12 years of roasting 2-3 batches each week before it stopped heating. I will give this to a friend who can replace the heating element, but I decided to get a new roaster. I looked around at what was available now and still bought the CBR 101 model. Clean, easy, and very consistent.

Terrific value

This is my second Gene Cafe roaster. The first one lasted for more than 10 years. Funny how it is finally wearing out and the best value I can locate in various reviews is to buy another Gene Cafe roaster. It is effective and roasts coffee in a "reasonable" amount of time. There are parts available for almost all the bits. The added feature of having to stand there and push a button to prove that I'm standing there frankly sucks, but I understand how lawyers think this is a good idea. When the safety feature is my biggest complaint, that is nearly no complaints at all. Besides, I'm unable to locate a better machine.
