Gene Cafe Home Coffee Roaster

The Gene Cafe CBR-101 has established itself as an excellent roaster capable of producing approximately half a pound of uniformly roasted coffee (250g). Ideal for both the novice, and more experienced home coffee roaster.  With simple time and temperature knob controls, and easy-to-view glass chamber, the user is able to watch the full progression of the roast.  The CBR-101 uses a unique vortex twisting, off-axis chamber rotation which assures complete distribution of the green coffee during roasting. This motion is one of the main reasons for the roasted coffee's uniform color.

Excellent coffee

This is a great little machine. Easy to learn and use. The coffee has been great right from the start. One thing that helped me get good results right away, was following the roast recommendations I got on beans from Sweet Maria's, but using the Gene roast chart to determine what level roast I was doing. From there I am tweeking it as I learn, but most of the coffee has been really good so far, and none of it was undrinkable. Set up and clean are both easy.

Top Notch Home Roaster

I've been roasting for several years and have gone through a popcorn popper, a different home drum roster, and a hot air roaster. This machine is far superior.

The Gene Cafe easily handles 6 oz batch sizes that the other machines couldn't and is able to get them dark enough, which the other machines didn't do well. I am still experimenting to find the ideal batch size and formula, but I am way ahead of any of the other machines I've used.

In terms of power, this is a major step up and I look forward to years of happy roasting.

The chaff collector and smoke suppressor work well. I roast on top of my stove with the hood ventilation on and have no smoke or odor problems.

Very happy so far!

Very nice unit

I have been roasting my own for several years. I was about to buy the third roaster of the other kind I had been using. They would last around 18 to 24 months. This one was substantially more but I hope it will last much longer. It is much quieter than old one and parked on the stove under the exhaust fan it does not smell up the joint like the old one did. I am still playing with roast time and temps but it works well and I am a happy roaster.

A Great Step Up In Home Coffee Roasting

I've been using a SR 500 for several years now and just can never get a good even roast. My Gene Cafe gives me a good even roast and it's easy to use. The roaster is built solid! Good quality materials that don't warp with the heat.
I like roasting different coffee beans to test and I love the flexibility with the heat temperature. It's only been a couple weeks but I'm enjoying the roaster and look forward to many years of roasting. It's well worth the price as it pays for itself.

Great product; great support

We bought one of these roasters in 2006, and have used it for at least 4 full roasts a week since then, but lately noticed the roasts were taking longer and longer. We called the folks at genecafeusa.com and they analyzed the problem over the phone—we needed to replace the heater, which we could purchase from them, and they have videos online that show how to change it, which we did. Now we are all back to normal, with our perfect 13.5-minute roasts. We highly recommend this roaster and the excellent support team behind it. You can vary the roast to be exactly what you want and the unit pays for itself rather quickly with the difference between quality roasted coffee and the price of the green beans you start with.... in fact, you will pay for your grinder and espresso machine as well in a year or so.
