Board upgrade from 2007 board

Amazingly the current board revision is working perfectly in my 16 year old roaster. There were a few adjustments to consider along the way, which I'll list out below, but it was otherwise a straight swap and it is working perfectly. They board I received doesn't seem to have the "unattended" feature, which is a welcome surprise, as I assumed that was going to be part of the deal.

The transformer doesn't mount on the new board, but instead mounts directly to the body of the roaster, in the same spot using the same screws and holes. This is why the new board is "L" shaped where the old board was a big rectangle.

The new board has the power supply build into it, which means that the old power supply board just comes out. Too bad, as I had replaced my power supply board a couple years ago so it was pretty fresh. I had to adjust the length of the power cables coming into the machine, and carefully remove and replace the collar that holds the cable where it enters the machine. I also had to replace the connector spade crimp on one of the power leads. It's the first time I have ever had to cut a wire or solder something when serving my machine. If you don't solder, and/or you want to reuse the existing crimp you could easily work around that with the strategic use of wire nuts.

The new board needed an upgraded inlet sensor, which added $12 or whatever. No big.

I replaced my heater at the same time I did the board which was convenient as the new heater has shorter leads which better match the placement of the power connections. If your heater is first generation and has a lot of cycles on it, I recommend replacing it when you replace the board or at minimum cutting and resoldering the connections to match the new power supply placement.

Always amazed at the user friendliness and backwards compatibility of the 101. I got my roaster second hand 14 years ago, and with occasional self-service it just keeps chugging.

Board work well BUT new "Unattended Safety Switch" future is very disturbing

Board designed to fit my 2007 GeneCafe unit. Replacing old board is not difficult. power wiring must be extended and power must be board removed.
The new Unattended Safety Switch future is very disturbing and inconvenient
for user who safely roast coffee beans without jumping three times to push the bottom with every roast for a past 15 years, but so far is no way to disable it.
In general electronic part work well.

works But.....

Replaced the boards and it now works, But, I do not like the alarm that puts the roaster into cooling cycle if you do not push the button. I cannot hear it go off, should also have a small led light to give a warning.

Wrong part

They sent me a totally different board than the one pictured. The one pictured is exactly the one I need

Wonderful Experience!

I've had my CBR-101 for over 8 years and have been using it regularly, producing over 15 roasts per month. A few months ago it developed some heating issues where it couldn't reach my set-point of 438 degrees. I contacted Gene Cafe's support team. Rather than trying to sell me something right off the bat they (Celina) wanted to know exactly what the scenario was and all of the specifics involved with this issue. What a concept! A company that has actual humans involved with their customers that doesn't just direct you to a FAQ page.
Long story short, with Celina's guidance the problem was isolated to the heating element. I purchased it and viola! it started working again. I have since had a couple of other issues (totally expected after some 1500 roasts). Again, Celina took the time to gather the details of the problem and provided expert advice and recommendations as to what I needed to order. This time it was the PCB board and temperature sensor. These were ordered and promptly shipped. I installed them and now everything is working perfectly again.

I can't say enough good things about this company. They are reminiscent of the old days where things were repaired rather than the "go to" method of today where we just buy new and throw out the old. How novel for a company to actually sell repair parts that one can purchase and make what's old new again. There will come a day when my roaster needs to be put out to pasture. When that day comes I will purchase another CBR-101.
Thank you Gene Café!!! and a special thanks to Celina.
