CBR-101 - Red Coffee Roaster (120v)

Sold Out

Gene Cafe Home Coffee Roaster

The Gene Cafe CBR-101 has established itself as an excellent roaster capable of producing approximately half a pound of uniformly roasted coffee (250g). Ideal for both the novice, and more experienced home coffee roaster.  With simple time and temperature knob controls, and easy-to-view glass chamber, the user is able to watch the full progression of the roast.  The CBR-101 uses a unique vortex twisting, off-axis chamber rotation which assures complete distribution of the green coffee during roasting. This motion is one of the main reasons for the roasted coffee's uniform color.

Good machine

I like the machine but don’t love it. I do not like the chime which mandates you press a button. There are no controls to get rid of this feature. Perhaps too many fires and legal had to respond.
I also feel that it takes a little too long to get up to heat. The machine is relatively quiet and I do not find it difficult to recognize the crack.

Great new passion!

Love it. Wonderful roasts. I roast in the garage and I bought a 3 inch dryer tubing to vent out the Bottom open part of Partially open garage door. Still learning Requires close attendance for the temp alerts to keep it going but I think that adds to the safety Really enjoy it !

So far so good!

I totally nuked my first roast. Don't follow the included instructions! Dump the roast into a fan-cooled tray or something. (I just put a colander on a box fan.) The machine cool down really isn't the way to go. I've been using the recommendations on this page - https://roastrebels.com/en/roasting-knowledge/coffee-roasting/gene-cafe. I've gotten some pretty good roasts and I am looking to fine-tune as I go. I work at a coffee company and usually roast in a large gas drum roaster; this is not that! New learning curve! It's a fun little machine and I'm thinking I will be able to coax some good roasts out of it! I've been eyeballing this machine for years but was reluctant to pull the trigger because I already had access to freshly roasted coffee. I finally had a wild hair late in the evening and bought it. I'm happy I did.

Excellent coffee

This is a great little machine. Easy to learn and use. The coffee has been great right from the start. One thing that helped me get good results right away, was following the roast recommendations I got on beans from Sweet Maria's, but using the Gene roast chart to determine what level roast I was doing. From there I am tweeking it as I learn, but most of the coffee has been really good so far, and none of it was undrinkable. Set up and clean are both easy.
